The technical editor position works as a resource specialist in writing, cataloging and maintaining of business and technical publications; creates, writes and edits publications, including reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, procedures and related materials; and conducts interviews with subject-matter experts to understand and present technical materials and parameters of technical content and the presentation of such content. The Editor will provide editorial support to intelligence directorate elements in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The Technical Editor is responsible for insuring that products are error free and meet Intelligence Community and DIA standards. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to task manage and prioritize workloads. Technical editors must have strong computer and word processing skills, in addition to writing, editing, proofreading, and page composition skills. They must be familiar with desktop publishing practices and be able to work with Web coding and authoring systems, such as Extensible Markup Language (XML) or Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). Reviews intelligence products for proper grammar, punctuation, and syntax, as well as for logic, clarity, and consistency. Insures that style and format conform to agency publication standards and that language presentation is consistent with prescribed style guides and specialized vocabulary of subject matter fields. Amends draft tables, tone boxes, and graphics to ensure the content supports and is consistent with the accompanying text. Insures proper classification markings in accordance with IC guidance. Works with authors to revise products for narrative organization, and negotiates further revisions as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Edit products, including multimedia elements, for grammar, syntax, spelling, and usage to ensure clarity, consistency, and logic.

  • Ensure intelligence products have the proper classification markings and conform with DIA and Intelligence Community standards.

  • Provide editorial advice and guidance regarding DIA and Intelligence Community standards and policies.

  • Exercise excellent interpersonal skills while meeting face-to-face with authors, senior reviewers, and foreign disclosure officers.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have active Top Secret/SCI clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related area.

  • Experience with multitasking, prioritizing, and rapidly adapting to changing organizational requirements while producing error-free material under tight deadlines.

  • Experience in quality control, problem identification and analysis, initiative, and creativity in problem solving.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and build rapport with others.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe products.

  • Familiarity with Security Marking Program standards for classification and declassification markings.
